Why Drugs Won Big in 2020
Rev Left Radio explains
Revolutionary Left Radio is a podcast out of Omaha hosted by a guy who calls himself Breht O’Shea. The show’s guests are socialists, Marxists, anarchists, and generally anti-fascists who discuss radical possiblities in a country and world largely enamored with or crushed by capitalism. Rarely are there conversations about elections on Rev Left Radio, but Breht made an exception this Friday for an election rant, some of which was about the march toward drug legalization:
I wanted to make a point about this drug legalization wave that really won in this election. Conservative places like fucking South Dakota legalizing recreational marijuana, Oregon, decriminalizing all hard drugs. I mean, on the ballot in many states, where there were measures to decriminalize or legalize drugs, they passed. And that’s good one one level — I’m 100 percent for decriminalization, I’ve always detested the racist war on drugs, I am for therapy and rehab for addicts in place of the carceral state, all these things are moving in a positive direction, but I would not be doing my job if I didn’t point out the timing here. We are living in an empire in decay…As our society gets more dystopic and more menacing, as the empire decays, as it becomes clearer that no one is coming to help us solve any of our problems, what begins to happen? Drugs start to get…
